I found some great blogs for teaching. The first is a blog about teaching blogs. If you are looking for blogs, it's a great place to start, as it's a catalog of sorts. teachingblogcentral.com. One reason I particularly liked this source was because the blogs are grouped in by grade level. It has hundreds of blogs for each grade from K-12. Through this, I found many blogs that peaked my interest.
My favorite blog was Inspired Teacher. inspiredteacher.net This blog has multiple authors. As a result, there is a great variety throughout and does not focus on any one view or philosophy. It is organized into many categories including "Teacher Inspiration", "Teaching Character" and "Teaching Tips". This is a great resource with enough reading material to keep you busy for months.
I found hundreds of blogs for teaching in general, and many for science and math. I was a bit frustrated, though, at the lack of blogs specifically about teaching architecture. I guess I need to create one myself!
Wow, I really liked the "inspired teacher" blog site. The article about the woman hearing for the first time is really incredible. I was struck by Jill Scott's blog on teaching:(http://www.inspiredteacher.net/2012/01/introducing-jill-scott/)She states:
ReplyDelete"If it’s not the money then it has to be the kids. They make me laugh every day, and I am so inspired by their amazing and unique personalities. That, and I like to make people listen to me and boss them around. It makes me feel powerful."
It's not so much that I like the fact that teaching is bossing around, but it really does come down to the student's individual and most perfect personalities. I could say that teaching is the most rewarding profession and I would say that it is true for me. Despite the daily challenges and drama that could go on in the day, it is so incredible to me that the students will always come back the next day for your attention. I think that if you took middle school too seriously your aimed at going crazy. I believe in having a flexible attitude and a positive outlook, it becomes infectious with individuals around you.
I didn't have a lot of time to check it out, but from what I did see, the teachingblogcentral.com site is going to be very helpful. I saw some interesting and creative middle school science projects that I'm going to keep in mind. One blog posted pictures of creative ways of learning about the internal parts of a cell; one child made a cake and used candy as the cell's components. I know I'm going to have to spend some time reading through the Inspired Teacher site. It looks like there will be plenty of wisdom and good advice for a new teacher. I skimmed through the article, "For When You Don't Agree with Policy," and found an optimistic view. I look forward to reading more.
ReplyDeleteWow- the teaching blog central site is awesome! Also love how the blogs are grouped by grade/subject. I know I want to teach elementary school but not sure what grade (not that i'll have a choice) but it's a good insight to what teaching each would be like! One of my favorites that I came across was, Hello Mrs. Sykes-Resources for Teachers" which had lots of great ideas for a second grade classroom. I'll definitely be visiting that one again, along with the other 500 blogs i'm now obsessed with! AH so many fabulous blogs! :)
